OUR TRAILS HUB

Open 9.30am-11.30am every day during the Backyards Trail.

Located at the EnviroHub, next to the zoo at 28 Brooklands Park Drive, New Plymouth.

EnviroHub regular open hours are Tue, Wed, Thu 9.30am-2.30pm.

A great organic garden, with seeds, gifts, booklets and Bundle cards for sale inside.

OUR TRAILS

BACKYARDS TRAIL

30 Oct - 8 Nov 2026

Connect with gardeners and pick up new ideas, skills and seedlings.

  • A private garden where hosts aim for natural techniques.

    Learn. Pick up a wealth of tips on growing healthy gardens, natural pest control, increasing soil health, and how to caring for animals.

    Inspiration. Whether your space is small, large, steep, or shady, we have a great selection of backyards to draw inspiration from.

  • To visit a backyard, simply turn up and sign in. For talks and events, register online.

    Sign-in. When visiting properties on the Backyards Trail, just turn up during open hours and one person signs in the group. Pay with cash or using a Bundle card. 

    Walk & talk with hosts. Keep an eye out for hosts in high-vis vests and jump in on an informative tour of the property.

    Register for talks & events. There are limited spaces for host talks, community and feature events. These must be booked online.

  • Just $3 cash or use a Backyard Bundle card, which comes with free seeds.

    Property entry is $3 cash (under 12 yrs free).  Purchase a $15 Backyard Bundle card to visit 5 Backyards (plus get 3 packets of seeds). One per person.

    Host talks are either included with your $3 backyard entry or cost $5 with entry included.

    Events range in price, including many for free, but we aim for value for money.

  • Check out our new app and website to make a plan or see the printed schedule in the booklet.

    Features. Backyards have different features, styles of gardening, and accessibility. Choose properties to suit your needs.

    Plan your route. Once you have a few 'must-visits' on your list, see what other backyards or talks are on in the area.

BUILDS & FARMS TRAIL

9 - 15 Nov 2026

Walk and talk with owners & experts who have done things a little differently.

  • Builds. Mainly private homes where design, materials, technology and the build process support sustainability.

    Farms. Commercially viable agricultural operations where owners, operators and specialists talk to the management of their resources such as water, land, crops and animals.

    New in 2026...

    Lifestyle blocks. Larger parcels of land integrated into daily living including animal and land management, energy generation and storage, water systems, larger food forests and crop management.

  • Register for tours & events online as space is limited.

    Register yourself, family or friends online, then join a small group on the day to hear from owners and experts, ask questions and make connections.

  • Many tours are free, or they come with freebies. If there's a cost, it's great value!

    Tours range from free to $15, with a drink or snack included if there's a charge. Events range in price but many are free, either way you'll find great value.

  • We've aligned tour times and locations to make the most of your time and travel.

    Plan, register & explore. Once you've registered for a 'must-do' tour, see what else is on in the area. In most cases, we've aligned tours so you can attend two or more tours with time for travel in between.

    • Tap Install app 

    • Tap Add or Install (confirm the placement if prompted).

    • Tap Add.

    Microsoft Edge (Android)

    1. Open the website.

    2. Tap the ⋯ menu.

    3. Select Add to phone or Add to Home screen.

    Firefox (Android)

    The app will then open full-screen from its own icon, and works offline.

    Issues?

    If you are having issues with the app, do a hard refresh on your desktop browser — Ctrl + Shift + R (Windows/Linux) or Cmd + Shift + R (Mac) — or uninstall and re-install/download the app on your phone.

  • YES — the web app is free, works on your phone, and can be added to your phone’s home screen like an app.

    No account or sign-up needed. Favourites are saved to a device, so they won’t appear across devices.
